Edo fine patterning (or "Edo Komon") is a stencil-dyed design used in kimono, so fine that it appears to be a solid color when viewed from afar.
Whereas "Kyo Komon" ("Kyoto fine patterning"), another well-known pattern, is colorful in design, Edo fine patterning is typically made with a single color.
In general, these finely patterned komon designs are used for stylish kimono and therefore not usually worn for formal occasions, but Edo fine patterning, though it is a komon design, is typically treated like a single-colored fabric.
Depending on the pattern and coordinate styling, this type of kimono can be made more formal or more casual, making it an especially convenient type for kimono lovers.
There are many different patterns ("monyo") in Edo fine patterning, but amongst these, the "samé," or shark pattern, is known as the "Edo Komon Sanyaku," and is regarded as the pattern with the highest status. It can be worn in formal dress when worn with a single embroidered family crest and a taiko-knotted obi sash made with gold or silver threads.

"Wagara" is a term for traditional Japanese patterns passed down from long ago. The patterns have been used in earthenware, in Buddhist ritual items, and in kimono.
Amongst these traditional patterns, one pattern with an especially auspicious meaning is that known as "Kissho Monyo" (literally, "auspicious pattern"). It is often seen even nowadays at weddings, celebrations of longevity, and other celebratory events.
Multiple patterns are often used in combination to produce a more gorgeous effect, or to emphasize their celebratory meaning.
Customers can select the pattern of their choice. Fabrics are available in multiple other colors and patterns, aside from what is pictured here.
